Hygiene Therapy

Will it be painful?

Our hygienists will ensure the treatment is as comfortable and painless as possible. If you have sensitive teeth or are a nervous patient your hygienist can use local anaesthetic to help put you at ease.

How long will it take?

Our highly skilled hygienists will decide whether a standard clean or a deep clean is necessary. A standard clean takes 20 minutes and a deep clean takes approximately 45 minutes.

How often do I need a hygiene visit?

Your hygienist will advise you on how often you need to attend. Each patient is different but usually we recommend every 3 to 6 months.

Can it help to whiten my teeth?

Even if we brush and floss our teeth regularly, appointments for cleaning teeth with professional tools can have a big impact on our mouth's health. In addition, professional teeth cleaning helps to remove tartar and some stains that you may not be able to remove with simple brushing.

White Fillings

What does the procedure involve?

The tooth will be numbed using local anaesthetic. On some occasions fillings can be carried out without any local anaesthetic, especially if they do not require removal of decay. The old filling will be removed along with the decay, a new white filling is then placed in layers. The filling will be shaped to look like a natural tooth, smoothed and polished to finish.

Can I eat after getting a filling?

White fillings set immediately so you can eat and drink straight away. If local anesthetic has been used you need to be careful not to drink anything too hot or to bite your tongue when eating.

Do you offer payment plans?

We ask for the treatment to be paid per appointment. We do offer interest free finance on dental treatment over £300. One of our team can give you more details on payment plans.

Crowns

Is the procedure painful?

  • When preparing the crown your dentist will use local anaesthetic to numb the tooth so the procedure will be pain free.
porcelain crowns

How much does it cost?

The cost of your crown will vary depending on the type of crown chosen.Your dentist will discuss the different options and prices with you before treatment, so you can then make an informed decision.

How long does a crown last?

A crown can last between 5 and 15 years depending on your diet, dental hygiene and regular attendance at the dentist for maintenance reviews. Your dentist will advise you at your appointment.

Veneers

What does the treatment involve?

A porcelain veneer is completed over two appointments. At the first appointment your tooth will be prepped and shaped where necessary. Impressions will be taken which are sent to a skilled dental lab technician who will make the veneer. After 2 weeks the veneer will be ready and cemented on to the tooth.

What is the difference between a crown and a veneer?

A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain overlaying the front of your natural tooth. The preparation required is minimal if any. This is why veneers are ideal for front teeth.

A crown covers your tooth completely. Crowns are used if a tooth is very badly broken down, heavily filled or already has a crown. Crowns are stronger than veneers when treating back teeth especially.

Can I still whiten my teeth?

Porcelain veneers do not whiten. We always recommend whitening your teeth before getting a veneer so it can be matched to the same shade as your teeth.

Composite Bonding

Do I need numbed for the treatment?

No unless an existing filling needs to be removed. Normally the treatment is pain free as your own tooth surface is not touched.

The white filling material does not whiten. We recommend whitening your teeth before getting the treatment. We have different shades of white resin filling material which we match and blend with your own tooth colour to make it as natural and flawless as possible.

Tooth Whitening

Will my teeth be sensitive?

Our whitening gel has a desensitising agent in it to limit sensitivity. We recommend using a toothpaste for sensitive teeth when whitening. Your dentist will provide further advice on this at your appointment.

How long will my teeth stay white?

This will depend on certain factors like smoking, drinking red wine, tea and coffee or highly coloured foods. The teeth will naturally stain over time but you can use your home whitening kit to top up as and when required.

I need a lot of dental treatment, can I do the whitening first?

We always make sure you have had a recent check up before whitening. If you have dental decay and need dental treatment we always recommend having that work completed before whitening. The reason for this is to avoid causing unnecessary pain or sensitivity.

Can Tooth Whitening damage my teeth?

Overall, teeth whitening is a very safe and effective way to remove stains from teeth. When used correctly and under the supervision of a dental professional it will not damage tooth enamel. Increased sensitivity can be experienced for a short time during and after treatment, but this can be minimised with the help of your dental professional.

The length of treatment is something that can only be determined by your dentist as it will depend on the severity of your problems. Usually the treatment takes on average 6 months for adult braces. Some cases are too complex and require referral to a specialist orthodontist.

Can I eat as normal?

With any brace you need to be careful what you eat. A softer diet is recommended and hard foods like crusty rolls, popcorn, sweets are to be avoided as they could damage the brace. The wire is attached to the bracket with clear elastics which can stain. Highly coloured food and drinks should be avoided eg. curry, red wine etc. The elastics are changed at each visit so can be refreshed if they do become stained.
